In this research area, models are developed that support companies in systematically identifying, quantifying, and integrating risks and uncertainties into their decision-making processes. Using modern simulation models, complex relationships are mapped, scenarios are tested, and the impact of strategic decisions on enterprise value is made visible.

This enables management decisions to be made in a more informed and forward-looking manner. Through simulation-based business valuation, it is possible to conduct precise and forward-looking enterprise valuation even in imperfect capital markets. Unlike modern capital market theory, the cost of capital is not derived theoretically but determined based on a sound risk analysis. This enables a risk-adjusted assessment of capital costs and enterprise values.
Forensic Accounting
In this research area, models for fraud detection in accounting are developed. This is achieved by incorporating data analytics methods, such as Benford's Law. These models can be used to examine financial figures, such as income statements and balance sheets, for potential fraud. This tool is also used in practice (e.g., in the acquisition of the majority stake in the publicly traded Mobotix by the CERTINA Group). The model created in Python is continuously refined.
